Choosing The Right Fence

It might not seem like a difficult decision, but finding the right fence can be hard to do. In addition to choosing a picket style, a color, and a height, you might also be concerned about abiding by city and neighborhood ordinances. However, all of these decisions are easy if you choose the right fence contractor. A few years ago, I found a great contractor who helped us to create a beautiful, functional backyard in a few weeks. Read this blog for more information about fences, contractors, and design styles that you won't regret a few years down the road.

Neighbor's Dog Keeps Getting Into Your Yard? Some Options To Keep It Out

by Chester Alvarez

If the neighbor's dog keeps getting into your yard, this can not only bother you and your family but can also damage your lawn when the dog digs, urinates, or defecates. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to keep the dog out, two of which are listed below.

Fencing

The best thing to do is to put up a fence. This may be an expensive option but it will be the only one guaranteed to keep dogs away. There are many types of fencing options available, including the three types below.

Aluminum Fencing

This type of fencing is attractive and decorative and you can choose to have it painted in just about any color that you want. It's also strong enough to prevent dogs from entering for years to come.

Wood Fencing

This type of fencing gives you privacy if you choose a tall fence. Wood fencing gives your home a welcoming and warm feeling as well. What this fence will cost depends on the size and height.

PVC Fencing

If you are on a budget, PVC fencing is inexpensive. This type of fence uses PVC to replace pickets and wooden stakes. It is not as sturdy as something like wood, but PVC can still work well. You should not choose PVC, however, if you live in an area that has frequent high winds. You can find PVC fencing in a variety of colors and heights, and it can typically last a long time.

No matter which fence you choose, make sure the fence is tall enough so the dog cannot jump over it.

Motion-Activated Sprinkler

A motion-activated sprinkler would work well to prevent dogs. When the dog steps into your yard in the path of the sprinkler, the sprinkler will automatically come on and cause the dog to get wet. In most cases, the dog will then run away. If this happens more than once, the dog may decide to stay away from your yard.

You can also find motion-activated sprinklers that use noise along with the water to not only get the dog wet but also scare him or her away. This type of sprinkler system detects the dog's heat, as well as his or her movement. How far the sprinkler sprays depends on the type you purchase.

You should also talk with your neighbor about watching his or her dog as there are leash laws they have to follow. The exact laws and requirements depend on the state you live in.
